Deacon Nation

Virtually every Saturday this fall in the Rietz family has looked like this:

1. Get up, go to yoga (D sleeps in or gets up early to watch Liverpool)
2. Don our Deacon garb (ask Dave about his new belt!) and get ready to support the Deacs
3. Travel anywhere close enough to see them play (Boston, Clemson, Winston, etc.)
4. Return home to watch more NCAA football.
5. Fall asleep on the couch to the melodious sounds of ESPN announcers...

Congrats to the Deacs last night on a solid victory over NC State, bringing our record to 7-4. With just Vandy to go, we are definitely hoping to do a little bowling this winter...

Enjoy some of our pictures from the season..

Halloween Virgins

this is my stalker picture from our living room window of the kids and parents across the street from our home at the beginning of the festivities

our budget costume of Liverpool soccer player and ball: total cost was $1.15!

I was so excited to see a raptor costume! I had to take a pic of these two girls after telling their mother that "I love the costume and I love eagles, too." Her response: "Then you all (you and my two year old child) have something in common I guess." - clearly, she thought I was a bit unusual...

I am finally getting around to post about our first Halloween with trick-or-treaters...truly, I have never seen a neighborhood so rally around a holiday. After a group party for families and kids in the cul-de-sac across the street, the masses streamed onto front porches to collect their booty en-mass while the moms and dads stood at the curb with their cups and bottles filled. As David noted, "I guess Halloween isn't just for kids anymore." Yep.

Yoga for Everyone!

I couldn't resist posting a portion of this email from one of my parents below...I changed the name of my student, of course, but I love that my yoga obsession is being passed along to the little ones! :) also - i have added to this post a photo sent on from one of my yogafit colleagues of our group during the weekend - thanks to Debbie for sending it on...namaste...

"wish you could be in my den....my husband mentioned he was a little stressed and his neck was tight and JANE offered to lead him in yoga to relax him. She says she learned it from you. She is in there making him do "the tree" and now i hear her saying " a few more cleansing breaths"... Its so sweet and such a wonderful reflection of what she has learned from you about love and life"

Yogafit

As some of you know, over the last year I have become a yogi...never though it would be me, but I am absolutely hooked on the practice of yoga. Wanting to bring yoga to my students and maybe a middle school class if possible, I asked one of my teachers what I needed to do to be able to teach kids. She encouraged me to take a "Yogafit" Level One course which teaches basic anatomy and teaching techniques as well as 40 basic poses and then apply kids' philosophy to those. (www.yogafit.com)

SO....this past Saturday and Sunday, I stepped way out of my comfort zone and entered Yogafit. 11 women attended this training - all of which except me were fitness instructors of some kind...on the back end of the 16 hours of learning and practice teaching, I am definitely glad I did it and am finding myself once again glad that I get to teach kiddos all day instead of scary adults - haha. Look for further posts on my progress in teaching "8 hours of free community yoga" to adults - are you laughing yet?
