The Martins

This weekend, we journeyed to Grandfather Mountain, NC to celebrate the wedding of Laurie Jones and David Martin. We stayed in a condo with the Scholls, Leonards, and Colemans and loved every minute of the weekend. The weather was perfect and the rehearsal dinner, game day, and wedding day were bursting with joy and love.

We are so happy for you, L and D.

Happy 34

Last week we celebrated the 34th year of life of our dear friend, Grant Coleman. Grant chose to eat at The Counter, which was tasty as always. Kudos to Katie for a beautiful cake as well. Love you, Dr. C. ...

Where's Kim?

This Memorial Day weekend marked the sixth official gathering of my Wake Forest ladies for "girls weekend." This year we mixed it up a bit with some babies and not quite as much Mexican Train, and a fab time was still had by all. Thanks to Carolyn, Christy, Laura, Andrea, Emily, Brooke, and Mary for gathering in Dallas to continue our tradition.

Some of my favorite moments include, but are not limited to:

* experimenting with the initial "P"
* attending Brooks' sip and see
* watching Laura change & feed George on the fly - way to go, Lar...
* puppy chow + margaritas
* calling for Kim
* riding the train (third place for me...blast it, Mary and Emily)
* meeting my friends' beautiful children
* meeting Molly McCollum
* Burger House, health food store yogurt, and Rafas (lactose intolerance be damned!) in one weekend
* lounging at Caruth Park

Most of all, I loved laughing and just being with precious friends. Love you, lovely ladies. Thanks also to Brooke (and Lee!) for opening her home to us - it is just lovely.

Jeopardy

We missed it but the season finale of Saturday Night Live was this past week hosted by Will Farrell. My sister passed along the link to the Jeopardy sketch - it is make you cry funny ... enjoy!

Non sequitor - did anyone catch the homophones past and passed in the post above? you can take the teacher out of the fifth grade...

TMI?

Today I went to the chiropractor because my left leg has been numb for a few days. Anyhoo, I had to get new x-rays of my back and pelvis. Come to find out my pelvis bones are really disproportionate. Weird.

Too Much Information?

In other news, digital x-ray machines are wicked cool.

Jen Lancaster

Last night, three friends from book swap and I journeyed to Huntersville to see Jen Lancaster promote her new book: Pretty in Plaid.

For those of you who haven't read her, Jen is a contemporary writer of memoir with specific taste and a bit of a potty mouth whose writing will make you laugh out loud.

I have only read her first book (Bitter is the New Black), but I was psyched, as always, to see and hear an author and spend time with some dear friends.

Apparently, Jen's second book, Bright Lights Big Ass, is the best of the bunch - so check it out if you want to check her out.

The pictures below are of us waiting in line for, count 'em, two hours, to get our books signed. We decided to go with creepy-thumbs-up pose for the shot with the author herself - look how uncomfortable she looks!

Released

Yep - more raptor reporting...

Tuesday, as a finale to our grade level service partnership with the Carolina Raptor Center, a rehabilitated barred owl was re-released into the wild from our school.
Injured by a car, the bird rehabbed in about two weeks and is now hopefully building a healthy new life somewhere near Uptown Charlotte.

Our director of development got some great pictures - check them out in the Picasa album by cutting and pasting the link below.

April Shower

A few weeks ago, Ellen and I journeyed to Dallas to celebrate her final wedding shower (besides the gaychelorette!). She was a gorgeous bride to be and received tons of handy kitchen and linen things for her new life with Sir John. Thanks to the Kleins and the Castellaws for a lovely evening - despite the torential showers. :)

Click on the Picasa album below to enjoy the pics!
