Room

I believe that room is one of life's best gifts.  Room to wonder.  Room to struggle and grieve.  Room to breathe.  Room to grow.  Granted, it can be a hard gift to accept, but when I am given room in my life or let go and offer room others' lives, I find a measure of peace that is hard to come by.  Accordingly, I also believe that the physical rooms in our life matter. They allow us to find comfort, order, familiarity.  Their design allows us to fulfill a vision and create a feeling.  I've been meaning to post a picture of Charlie's first room for a while now, so here it is.  It's playful and quirky, cozy and sweet - just like my baby.  I know he won't remember it, but I want him to know that his first little nest was made with love.

Can you hear the angels singing?

Charlie slept from 8:20 until 6:45 last night.  First time ever.  Hallelujah!

Nine Months

Coincidentally, Charlie's nine month birthday fell on Christmas.  Against my better judgement, I let my Ellen and John talk me into a "my first Christmas" outfit for the shoot.  Disavowing any clothing with writing on it is another one of my strange preferences in mothering.  If any event warrants it, I suppose it's the first Christmas.

This month, Charlie developed lightning fast crawling skills, developed stranger anxiety (yikes!), started sleeping with (and really loving) a lovey, moved to three food meals a day, refused to eat anything with his own hands or solid in nature, and began getting up once in the middle of the night again (again, yikes!).  He is currently 28.25 inches long (50%), 17.2 lbs (10-25%), and has an average sized head.  He is chock full of personality, giggles, sly looks, and kisses.  He is also scared of a wind-up car he received for Christmas.  Hilarious.  Enjoy our photo shoot...
